“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.” John 16:13a (NIV)
Our family has had the opportunity to tour two large caverns in the U.S, Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, and Luray Caverns in Virginia. We were awed by these magnificent underground compounds with spacious rooms, glistening walls and floors, and towering spires. At one point in our trek through Luray Caverns all lights were switched off, and we were able to experience absolute darkness. All of our journey through these caves would have been frightening and intimidating if we had been alone in this unfamiliar territory. But we were not alone. We had an experienced, knowledgeable guide accompanying us every step of the way who reassured us that we would find our way safely through that massive underground place.
In a similar way, Mt. Pleasant needs a reliable Guide in 2006. Elsewhere on this website you will see 2006 designated as a “Bridge Year” for Mt. Pleasant. It is so named because this year is the one which spans the gap between the first 100 years of this congregation’s life, and the next 100 years. As we begin the second century of congregational life, we face an environment that is drastically different from the one surrounding Mt. Pleasant in the first 100 years. We must have a reliable guide to make it safely through this unfamiliar territory! That Guide is the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of truth.
I invite you to pray with me for an anointing of the Holy Spirit over Mt. Pleasant as we set out across the bridge never traveled before – 2006, the Bridge Year!
