Church Vision

Mt. Pleasant Mennonite Church is called to be a Christ-centered family of God empowered by the Holy Spirit. We seek to call persons into a relationship with Jesus Christ and to nurture their continued growth through prayer, worship, loving relationships, biblically based Christian education, service and mission outreach.

In September 2005 we marked the 100th birthday of this congregation, and thus conclude the first century of this congregation's life.

As it begins the second century of congregational life, Mt. Pleasant is surrounded by a community that is drastically different from the one surrounding Mt. Pleasant for most of the first century of its life.

Bridge to the Future 2005-2006

How will Mt. Pleasant Mennonite Church approach its witness for Jesus Christ in the Mt. Pleasant community and beyond at the beginning of it’s second 100 years? This is the central question being addressed in what has become known as the congregation’s Bridge to the Future initiative.

In 2004 the congregation and its leaders worked with consultants to help the church be a healthier more united body in envisioning the future. Through this process the following recommendations were made for Mt. Pleasant Mennonite Church.

  1. Identify the key ministry priorities of the congregation.
  2. Disperse the work of ministry more evenly throughout the church.
  3. Develop a Master Plan for the existing church facility and properties.
  4. Develop a Master Plan for Mt. Pleasant Christian School (MPCS).
  5. Define the church’s long term relationship with Mt. Pleasant Christian School.
  6. Identify a process to bring a Ministry Organizational Structure to completion.
  7. Define how the church does congregational discernment and decision making.
  8. Revise and rewrite the constitution to reflect the new structure and operations.
  9. Enhance the church’s communication capabilities.
  10. Establish effective lay leadership training.

The Bridge to the Future concept received general membership affirmation at the March 13, 2005 congregational meeting. Leaders are hoping to complete or implement most of the recommendations by the end of 2006. Ultimately, progress and long term effectiveness will depend on vision, participation, and ownership at the congregational level. May we find God’s direction and purposes for this church, in this community, at this time.
